The students that graduate this specialization will also achieve research skills in optimization, game theory, stochastic processes and network and distributed systems modeling. Moreover, the students will achieve capacities related to the design and modeling of descentralized and scalable systems, cloud computing, fault tolerant systems, future internet networks, mobile internet, Internet of things, security and applications.
Four semesters. (120 ECTS)
The specialization in Computer Networks and Distributed Systems will give you in-depth knowledge of the principles and practice related to Computer Networks and Distributed Systems. The program is geared towards professionals who wish to increase their knowledge of the field and to those who are less familiar with it but who wish to engage with topics whose relevance is growing every day.
In Europe, there are currently thousands of job vacancies in the area of computer networking, internet technologies and distributed systems, and the industry is looking for professionals with strong knowledge who are able to design and lead the internet of the new millennium.
All of the professors involved in the master’s degree have a solid background and experience in research and innovation and actively participate in international and EU initiatives and national projects and have strong links with companies and research centers.
The program allows students to reach the state of art in topics such as broadband communications, future internet networks, wireless technologies, big data, decentralized systems and security.
The activities to obtain the SIRI credits can be done in any semester of the master's degree. Consult the detail of the seminars.
It is also possible:
Computer networks and distributed systems are found in businesses large and small, from start-up companies to established industry leaders. Graduates may potentially find employment as network engineers, who design and manage large infrastructure networks and systems; network analysts, who coordinate system enhancements between software and hardware, perform diagnoses, monitor utilities and integrate new network environments; or network managers, who focus on long-term planning and strategy considerations.
Many computer network and distributed systems scientists find employment in the R&D departments of industrial organizations, where they address technological challenges of all kinds. Most companies currently work in European and international projects in a variety of disciplines. Graduates learn a wide variety of methodologies for analyzing networks and systems and this allows them to deal with rapidly changing and challenging environments. As a result, graduates of the master’s degree in Computer Networks and Distributed Systems may be employed in a range of industries and have the potential to start their own innovative businesses or continue studying towards a PhD.
Candidates must provide proof of their English proficiency, with at least a B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (or equivalent).
Once you're inside the application form, you must choose the master Innovation and Research in Informatics. Once selected this master, you will be able to select the specialization Computer Networks and Distributed Systems.
You may graduate from this master’s degree with a double diploma degree from the UPC and any of the following universities. This will involve starting your master’s degree at the UPC and completing it at the other university.
MIRI stands for Master in Innovation and Research in Informatics. This label identifies those programmes with a special focus on research and innovation. Graduates become the most knowledgeable and skilled professionals in their respective area. These programmes are highly specialized and they provide a two year immersion in the corresponding field.
