SANS scholarships for the CNDS specialization
The SANS (Statistical Analysis of Networks and Systems, http://sans.ac.upc.edu) is a research group interested on the capture and analysis of data from Internet of Things devices, applied to different areas, such as environmental monitoring, smart cities, and analysis of mobility patterns. More specifically, our current research focuses on how to guarantee data quality and accuracy in community sensor networks made of low cost monitoring equipment by means of machine learning techniques. Current research projects are focused on the following areas:
We are seeking bright and highly motivated students with an interest in deepening their research background in the area of computer networks and distributed systems, especially in the topics listed above. The student will be actively involved in the activities of the research group.
Candidates should submit the following documents in English by email to firstname.lastname@example.org (Jorge García Vidal) and email@example.com (Jose M. Barcelo Ordinas). Please, attach the academic transcript for the undergraduate degree, a CV, and a short presentation letter.
We look for students with a good background in Computer Science, Telecommunication and Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.
The SANS offers 2 scholarships during the year 2019-2020. The student will collaborate with in activities in the research group related to Data Platforms for Community Sensing and statistical modeling and analysis for spatial sensor data while is following the Master Courses.

The Spanish Ministry of Education has launched its annual call for “collaboration grants”. These grants are intended for first-year master students who wish to carry out collabora have work with university departments in research activity or in practices related to their studies.
The UPC Research Group in Discrete, Combinatorial and Computational Geometry is willing to incorporate a student with a collaboration grant. You can find information on our research group through this link: https://dccg.upc.edu/
In order to apply for one of these grants, you must submit a collaboration project with a university department. If you are interested, we will discuss and write the project with you.
The mean grade is computed as follows:
Grade_of_a_course = (points * course_number_of_credits) / (total_number_of_credits)
Total_grade = sum of the grades of all the courses
Projects must be submitted for evaluation to the university by September 4. Therefore, we urge you to contact us in order to prepare all the paperwork and submit the application in time.
